Callais effectively eliminated federal protections Callais effectively eliminated federal protections against discriminatory voting maps. Now, error-prone voter purges are stripping eligible voters from the rolls ahead of November. This is a coordinated assault on the right to vote. States must pass state-level Voting Rights Acts to protect our right to make our voices heard.
Six years ago, George Floyd's murder demanded that Six years ago, George Floyd's murder demanded that the country reckon with public safety and police violence. Today, masked, unaccountable federal agents continue to terrorize communities, silence protesters, and operate without oversight or consequence. We demand Congress hold federal agents accountable, end racial profiling, and invest in the schools, services, and safety that keep communities safe.
Why is SPLC under attack? LCCHR President Maya Wil Why is SPLC under attack? LCCHR President Maya Wiley answers that question — and the truth is impossible to look away from. SPLC is being targeted because it fights to make sure Black voters in states like Alabama and Louisiana can actually vote. Because it challenges the rigged maps — the "packing and cracking" of Black communities designed to dilute their political power and strip away their right to representation. This is not abstract. This is about whether your vote counts. Whether your community gets a fair map. Whether you have any real say in who represents you. This is about people's ability to have voice and power — including the power to dissent and disagree with those in charge. That's exactly why they want @SPLCenter gone. And it's exactly why we have to fight back.
They didn't come for the @SPLCenter because it's d They didn't come for the @SPLCenter because it's dangerous. They came for it because it works. LCCHR President @maya4civilrights testified before the House Judiciary Committee with a truth that every American — every advocate, every voter, every parent — needs to sit with: "SPLC has been targeted by extremists and their supporters for years, not because it is dangerous, but because it is effective. Today, it is SPLC. But in a sense, we are all SPLC." This is not just about one organization. It is about whether civil rights groups can exist and do their work without being dismantled by those in power. If you believe in the right to vote, the right to learn, and the right to live without fear — this is your fight too.
LCCHR President @maya4civilrights went before the LCCHR President @maya4civilrights went before the House Judiciary Committee with a clear message — and she did not hold back. The attack on the @SPLCenter is not isolated. It is part of a coordinated assault on the civil rights organizations protecting your right to vote, your children's right to learn, and every person's right to live without fear. As the administration guts civil rights enforcement and the Supreme Court dismantles the Voting Rights Act, multiracial democracy hangs in the balance. We are watching. We are fighting. And we are not done.
We mourn the loss of former Congressman Barney Fra We mourn the loss of former Congressman Barney Frank (MA). Rep. Frank was a lifelong champion of civil and human rights issues ranging from immigration, gay rights, civil liberties, economic justice, and fair housing and lending. He was a 2012 Hubert H. Humphrey Civil and Human Rights Award winner and his courage as one of the first openly gay members of Congress will long be remembered. As chairman of the House Financial Services Committee, Rep. Frank advanced the most important and badly needed overhaul of consumer protection and financial regulatory law in decades. The Consumer Financial Protection Bureau — created by that landmark law — has been essential to helping all Americans, particularly those in communities of color, rebuild and move forward after the devastation of the nation's housing crisis. Rest in peace, Congressman Frank. Your legacy endures.
Wednesday’s House Judiciary Committee hearing on @ Wednesday’s House Judiciary Committee hearing on @SPLCenter was a shameful spectacle, and a preview of the administration’s strategy to intimidate and attack any organization that dares to stand in its way. Every American should be concerned about this campaign of political retribution. #DissentIsNotACrime
Today, the House Judiciary Committee held a hearin Today, the House Judiciary Committee held a hearing that produced zero evidence that anyone was defrauded by @SPLCenter. Instead, this shameful spectacle was designed to send a message to every civil rights organization in America: fall in line or you are next. Make no mistake: SPLC is being targeted not because it is dangerous, but because it is effective. It stands in the way of efforts to roll back civil rights, suppress voting rights, intimidate immigrants, and normalize hate. We are not fooled. We demand transparency, accountability, and an end to this agenda of political retribution.

For 60 years, the Voting Rights Act has protected For 60 years, the Voting Rights Act has protected Asian Americans from voter intimidation, language discrimination, and the dilution of political power. Without the protections of Section 2 of the VRA, politicians can draw maps that silence Asian American, Black, Latino, and other voters of color. We will not give up the fight—in state legislatures, in the courts, and at the polls—for our multiracial democracy. We call on Congress to restore, strengthen, and modernize our voting laws.
The indictment of @SPLCenter did not happen becaus The indictment of @SPLCenter did not happen because of the facts. It comes on the heels of the systematic dismantling of the Voting Rights Act and the repeated efforts to make it harder for voters to vote, schools to teach history, health care to be affordable, and people to see an immigration judge. The Trump administration is trying to silence any group that serves people on issues it doesn’t like. We will not allow it. #DissentIsNotACrime
Our President & CEO @maya4civilrights joined more Our President & CEO @maya4civilrights joined more than 160 civil rights, voting rights, faith, and community organizations in Montgomery this weekend. Within hours of the Supreme Court gutting the Voting Rights Act, politicians from Louisiana to Alabama to Tennessee moved to redraw Black people out of power. The South, where 56% of Black Americans live, is a direct target of this decision. An illegal map cannot silence our voices or steal our power. The march is not over. #ARLS #AllRoadsLeadToTheSouth Thank you 📸 @melissabenderphoto

Spread the word

Did you know that millions of Americans can’t access the democratic process because of solvable problems in how elections are run? These problems aren’t felt equally across communities – voters of color are 6x more likely than White voters to wait longer than an hour to vote, even in the same town. Spread the word to help defeat barriers to the ballot box.
